What is Cemaden?

The National Center for Monitoring and Alerts for Natural Disasters (Cemaden) is an institution linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and its main mission is the prevention and management of natural disasters in Brazil. With the increase in the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, such as floods, flash floods and landslides, Cemaden plays a crucial role in government action in these situations.

Cemaden's performance

Cemaden was created to implement, complement and consolidate the network of meteorological, hydrological and geotechnical instruments for environmental monitoring in partnership with several institutions. This includes the use of automatic rain gauges, meteorological radars, soil moisture monitoring platforms and semi-automatic rain gauges in risk areas.

One of the main results of the research and tools developed by Cemaden is the ability to provide early warnings of natural disasters for risk areas throughout Brazil. These alerts are based on data collected by the Cemaden network and other federal and state institutions, as well as on the knowledge of professionals specialized in areas such as meteorology, geology, hydrology and natural disasters.

Cemaden operates 24 hours a day, without interruption, monitoring risk areas in 957 municipalities classified as vulnerable to natural disasters. In addition, the center sends natural disaster alerts to the National Center for Risk and Disaster Management (Cenad), of the Ministry of National Integration, thus collaborating with the National Civil Defense System.

Almost four years after its creation, Cemaden has already issued more than 5,000 alerts to Cenad, between 2011 and 2016, which have supported actions to avoid or minimize social and economic impacts resulting from natural disasters.

Conclusion

The National Center for Monitoring and Alerts for Natural Disasters (Cemaden) plays a vital role in preventing and managing natural disasters in Brazil. With 24 vacancies open in its public competition, this is an opportunity to join an institution that plays a crucial role in protecting communities across the country.

If you want to be part of a team dedicated to the safety and well-being of the population, consider applying for this Cemaden competition. With attractive salaries and the chance to contribute to the prevention of natural disasters, this could be the career you’ve been waiting for. Remember to check the application requirements and deadlines so you don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to make a difference in your community and the country.
